Prayer

Prayer to Know my Vocation

I glorify you, God, in all that I do.

In mind, body, and spirit

I give my best to You.

Help me to follow your will

no matter the call:

sister, brother, or priest,

I promise my all.

If you call me to marriage,

I promise to love,

and to teach my own children

to seek grace from above.

Glory be to the Father,

and to the Son,

and to the Holy Spirit,

as it was in the beginning,

is now, and will be

forever. Amen.

Rita de Cascia (2004) Directed by Giorgio Capitani and starring Vittoria Belvedere. Famous as the patron of hopeless situations, St. Rita of Cascia is immortalized in this wonderful, deeply moving film about this beautiful woman who lived in Italy in the 14th century. Starring Vittoria Belvedere and Martin Crewes, this powerful story combines high drama, great love, deep betrayal, senseless tragedy, profound forgiveness and strong faith as it tells the story of this brave and loyal woman who married her knight, helped him overcome his dark past and convert to faith, happily bore him two children, and later endures immense pain as she loses everything in her life. She finds peace and new hope through generosity of a nearby convent of sisters, and with their help she develops a deep union with Christ that greatly inspires all who near her. Total run time is 3 hours. Movie is in English and Italian.

Fourth Sunday of Easter

The fourth Sunday of Easter is called Good Shepherd Sunday. In the Old Testament the image of the shepherd is often used for kings. God is frequently compared to a shepherd who leads, defends, and feeds his people. The experience of Israel with its leaders was rather miserable. The prophets criticized the kings very harshly, who instead of nourishing their sheep, exploited and even killed them.

God who 1s always on the side of the oppressed promised he is the one who would take care of the sheep himself, and he would send them a true shepherd, who would govern with justice and bring peace.

Matthew and Luke present the shepherd as the one who seeks the lost sheep and when we think of Jesus; the Good Shepherd, this image comes to mind. For St. John, Jesus says I’m the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. Jesus is the Good Shepherd because he loves his sheep so much that he is ready to lay down his life for them.

As disciples of our Lord, we are called to be good shepherds, to give our lives generously in service of our brothers and sisters. Love, sacrificial love, must be the motivating factor. We ask the good Lord to give us the grace to overcome selfishness.

Parish Office Volunteer Ministry

Did you ever wonder how those single page inserts get into the bulletin? Or how the office continues to operate so efficiently? It is due, in many parts, to the wonderful office volunteers who give so freely of their time and talent to help keep things organized. Aside from helping to stuff the bulletin and mass letter mailings, these special volunteers help to cover the everyday operations to keep the Parish Office running smoothly when our Office Assistant is out. They will answer the phone and give proper information to the caller, schedule Masses, make copies when needed and perform other tasks as might be required. Volunteers may be called to come in for a few hours a day, or an hour an afternoon, and sometimes the entire day as might be needed. If you are a friendly and organized person, who is willing to give a few hours as needed, and are interested in helping out in the office, please contact Erika at 607-273 -6121 ([email protected]).
