BUILDING FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP

Today's readings make clear that the days following Jesus' death were troubling for His disciples. They had believed that Jesus would lead a revolution to overthrow Rome and free Jerusalem. Instead, it seemed as those in power had won.
When Jesus broke bread with them, their hearts filled with insight. They returned to Jerusalem with a new understanding of God's redemptive love, compassion and justice.
The U.S. bishops tell us that our actions in the public sphere should be, "focused on the dignity of every human being, the pursuit of the common good, and the protection of the weak and the vulnerable." (
Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship)

How are you called to work for a just society?

SECULAR ORDER OF DISCALCED CARMELITES

The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites is an association of lay members who embrace a vocation to pursue Christian perfection in the world according to the spirit and ideals of the Discalced Carmelites with emphasis on: (1) vocation, (2) living in the world, (3) following the spirit of Carmel, namely, striving for close union with Christ through interior prayer. The next meeting is Sunday, April 13th at 1:00 PM in the Parish Center. For more information, please call 273-0821.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and most appropriately  held during the Easter season.  There is no better time than Easter to celebrate the protection of our most valuable gift from God, our children.  The Church teaches that each one of us is precious in the sight of God and that each of us has been created in the image and likeness of God.  Anything that diminishes the individual is a concern.  The Diocese of Rochester takes seriously its responsibility to protect the most vulnerable.  To that end, the suspicion of sexual abuse of a child/teen/vulnerable adult will be treated seriously.  For information on how you can become more informed and involved in keeping our children safe, please contact:  Barbara Pedeville at 800-388-7177 x1215 or Pedeville@dor.org
