CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and most appropriately held during the Easter season. There is no better time than Easter to celebrate the protection of our most valuable gift from God, our children. The Church teaches that each one of us is precious in the sight of God and that each of us has been created in the image and likeness of God. Anything that diminishes the individual is a concern. The Diocese of Rochester takes seriously its responsibility to protect the most vulnerable. To that end, the suspicion of sexual abuse of a child/teen/vulnerable adult will be treated seriously. For information on how you can become more informed and involved in keeping our children safe, please contact: Barbara Pedeville at 800-388-7177 x1215 or Pedeville@dor.org
BUILDING FAITHFUL CITIZENSHIP
"I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly." (Jn. 10:10) At the heart of the message on this Good Shepherd Sunday, Jesus promotes a fuller life for all people. Our challenge is to hear Christ's voice and follow it in order to embrace that life. In "Forming Consciences for faithful Citizenship", the U.S. Bishops remind us that this goal of abundant life is very similar to a founding principle of our country" "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." (#2) When we follow our conscience and work to be citizens of faith, we are obligated to be people who promote an abundant life for all God's people. What does an "abundant life" look like--is it something other than material wealth? What blocks our society from promoting a fuller life for all? What can I do now to promote this fuller life for all?
THEOLOGY ON TAP
Attention all Young Adults: in an attempt to continue to build a Theology on Tap-like group, there will be a second young adult gathering on Thursday, April17th, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Wegmans' Café (lower level). Michael Serino will be speaking on the subject of Our Call to Holiness (beginning at 7:30 PM, so the first half hour can be used for purchasing snacks). All young adults in their 20s and 30s, single or married, are welcome! Bring friends and spread the word!
