LAKESIDE COMMUNION MINISTERS NEEDED: Each Sunday during the 8:30 Mass, two members of our Community leave to bring Communion to the residents at Lakeside. There are 8 who rotate monthly so there is a need to train more people. There is a volunteer who will train you and will walk you through the process. It is a very rewarding experience. You do not have to be a Communion Minister in Church in order to participate in this ministry. The ministers go in pairs to the 3 floors. Please call Sister Edna if you are interested or for more information about this ministry. It is a beautiful way to bring Jesus to others.
BUILDING PEACE WITH JUSTICE: What an appropriate Gospel for today's observance of Earth Day. Our Gospel reminds us that Jesus always takes the initiative--calling us by name over and over to love and to mission. When Jesus hears our YES, we, like Peter, are sent to feed the lambs and tend the sheep. How are we to identify the lambs and the sheep most in need of our care? In their pastoral statement, Global Climate Change: A Plea for Dialogue, Prudence and the Common Good, our U.S. Catholic Bishops teach, "We especially want to focus on the needs of the poor, the weak, and the vulnerable in a debate (about global climate change) often dominated by more powerful interests. Action to mitigate global climate change must be built upon a foundation of social and economic justice that does not put the poor at a greater risk." Reflection: How is the Easter Season the right time for our new beginning--caring for the poorest sisters and brothers and God's creation?
