The Eucharist has been referred to from the early days of the Church as The Source and Summit of the Church. Celebrating and receiving the Eucharist is the most important thing (summit) we do together as a church. The Eucharist is the Body and Blood of Christ that feeds us as the source of true life in Christ.
We follow a similar model of preparation for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. Before preparing a child for one of these Sacraments, the child should already be enrolled in either our school (Immaculate Conception School website) or our Family Based Religious Education Program.
In mid-August, we begin the registration process for all children who will be making one of their Sacraments during the following school year. Registration forms are mailed out to families, and parent meetings happen in September. The Sacramental Preparation process is outlined at these parent meetings. Monthly preparation sessions for First Eucharist happen in February, March, and April. A mini-retreat and rehearsal happen in April/May and are followed by the celebration of the Sacrament.
For children who are Baptized, it is the policy of the Diocese of Rochester that First Reconciliation must precede First Eucharist. Children may prepare for BOTH Sacraments in the same year.
